The club decided to expand their existing short game practice facilities to include a new putting green in front of the clubhouse, and new chipping and bunker greens beside the 10th tee. The designs were prepared by Eddie Connaughton in conjunction with club manager Dave Callanan and the Course Committee. DAR Golf were appointed as the specialist contractor after a competitive bidding process and work commenced in February 2021.
The new putting green was constructed to U.S.G.A. recommendations for drainage and rootzone mix, with the turf from the old putting green used to finish the surface of the green. The new chipping and bunker green complex is 2000 m2 in size, with support mounding and swales around the area to provide multiple options for practicing all chipping options that will be experienced on the golf course. Built to U.S.G.A. recommendations with the surface “grassed” with cores from the existing greens and specialist hard wearing grass to take the heavy usage expected.
DAR Golf completed the works in 6 weeks to a very high standard of finish within the tendered price. The putting greens opened for play in May, and the chipping / bunker complex opened at the end of July.
“This project was great to work on as Brian D’Arcy delivered on the design features I wanted to achieve on the ground.”
